History
JER Partners is an established innovator and leader in the real estate industry
and has a unique history reflecting the Company’s longevity and ability to create
opportunity in a variety of market conditions over 30 years.
JER Partners was founded by Joseph E. Robert, Jr. in 1981 in response to the
need of public and private financial institutions to resolve their considerable
real estate loan workout problems. As one of the largest private asset managers
on behalf of the RTC, FDIC, FSLIC and numerous financial institutions, the firm’s
original focus was the management and resolution of non-performing and distressed
commercial real estate assets and loans. These contracts provided the foundation
for the firm’s investment activities.
JER Partners began investing in commercial real estate in the early 1980’s and significantly
expanded its investment platform in 1991 when the firm began investing its own capital
alongside institutional investors to acquire portfolios of primarily performing,
sub- and non-performing mortgage loans and real estate. JER Partners was a pioneer
in distressed and value real estate investing having made in aggregate $10 billion
(book value) in investments with its capital partners. In 1997, JER Partners established
the firm’s private equity real estate fund business, which has developed many lasting
relationships with prominent investors including pension funds, endowments, foundations,
financial institutions and other private equity investors around the globe. JER
Partners was an active Special Servicer of performing and non-performing U.S.
commercial real estate loans in CMBS pools for 20 years and was one of the leading
Special Servicers in the industry, highly rated by both S&P and Fitch.
Today, JER Partners is building upon its rich history and deep real estate operating
and asset management experience. The firm is devoting its attention to investor
needs while further developing investment strategies and structures that provide
unique yield-driven opportunities through a variety of investment vehicles.
